Project overview

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, a historic property that first opened in 1927 was purchased in a dilapidated state by Ensemble in 1982, and then shut down for a multi-year restoration and renovation project before reopening to the public in 1985. Early work on the project was dedicated to excavating remnants of the original Spanish/Mediterranean revival design that had been covered over the years with layers of drywall and drop ceilings that had ruined the once grand hotel. The restored and renovated hotel reopened with a fully restored “Blossom Room” ballroom that had hosted the first Academy Awards in 1929, a dramatic lobby with ceiling painting recreated in detail by the son of the painter who had done the original work.
